Tabriz Silk

This is a Tabriz rug from northwest Persia, dating back to circa 1890.  The colour combination of this design creates a strong impact by combining pastel colours in the medallion and border with a strong crimson red background colour. The design of this rug is a classic one seen in Tabriz carpets with an oversized central medallion and a vine motif with a floral border. A silk Tabriz rug of this size and in good condition is a rare find. This rug is finely hand-knotted on a silk foundation with silk pile and silk symmetry knotting.
