Bidjar

DETAILS

This is an antique Bidjar rug from Northwest Persia dating from circa 1900. This is an open field design with a center medallion. The zig zag design located above and below the medallion is taken from bidjar kilim weavings and has been integrated into a piled rug format.  The fact that the field design abruptly ends at the bottom of the rug show that this is a truly a handwoven piece and indicates its tribal roots. The blue border creates colour contrast and brakes the dark colour palette of the field.

This rug is very finely hand-knotted on a cotton foundation with wool pile.
