DETAILS

This is an antique Aubusson tapestry woven in France during the last quarter of the 19th century circa 1880-1890 and measures 500 x 380 cm in size. This piece features a floral center medallion set on a red field color decorated with alternating rows of stars and flowers. The field has an elegant framing border with spiraling branches and blossoming large-scaled leaves set on a beige background color creating color contrast against the red central field. Its border is decorated with repeating palmettes flanked by abstract leaves set on a light brown background color completing the tapestry’s design. This tapestry has been woven on an all-wool foundation and made using wool thread with all-natural vegetable dyes. It has been preserved and overall good condition with a few areas of repair and wear which are consistent with its age.
