Aubusson

This is an antique Aubusson tapestry woven in France during the mid-19th century circa 1850-1860 and measures 500 x 375 cm  in size. This piece is decorated with a central bouquet enclosed within a highly stylistic center medallion decorated with a light green pistachio color surrounded by a spiraling vine design in each of its corners. The corners of the field are designed with a bouquet surrounded by large-scaled leaf motifs. The outermost black border is decorated with the same spiraling vine design with leaves and its color acts as a finishing frame for this tapestry. It has been woven on an all-wool foundation and made with wool threads with 100% natural vegetable dyes. It has been preserved in overall good condition with a few areas of small repairs which are consistent with its age.
