This is a Sarab antique rug woven in northwest Persia circa 1900. It has an all over field design with rows of alternating faced Paisley motifs. The main border has a geometric zig zag leaf motif with polychrome colours set on an ivory background. The ivory colour of the main border create a contrast against the dark colour palette of the field and draws the viewer’s eye towards the border. The town of Sarab is most famous for its carpets woven with camel hair or camel hair coloured wool, which make them easily to decorate with and highly desired by collectors and designers alike.

This piece has been finely handknotted on an all wool foundation with wool pile that use all-natural vegetable dyes and is available in:

  • 305 x 170 cm

Condition: Overall good with some areas of wear or low pile consistent with its age.
