This is an antique Sarab rug woven in North West Persia at the beginning of the 20th century circa 1910. This piece is decorated with a geometric central medallion featuring the famous Herati pattern set on a beige background designed with a lattice motif enclosing a geometric hooked medallion. Each of the corner medallions within the field follow suit with the design and colour combination of the central medallion. The border is decorated with an intricate abstract crab motif interconnected with a vine design and flanked by a pair of sickle leaves surrounding a single flower set on a reddish-pink background. This piece has been woven on a cotton foundation and made using all wool pile and 100% natural vegetable dyes.
