DETAILS
This is one of the antique Farahan rugs woven in Central Persia circa 1880 – 1890. This carpet has what is known as a mostofi design which describes the large-scale spiraling vine motifs. The yellow background colour is extremely rare and highly sought-after by designers and collectors alike. Above each of the large scaled spiraling vine motifs can be found a set of three blue roses which is known as the gol-o-bol-bol motif. Even though the fields incorporate many smaller scaled motifs, it does not make the rug feel overly dense and this is a testament to the highly skilled weaver off this rug. The main border design is made up of alternating medium sized floral motifs connected by a vine design. This border design creates a fluid type movement within the rug and because each of the flower motifs are pointed downwards it draws the viewers’ eyes towards the bottom of the rug. The design, colour combination and age of this rug all make it extraordinary and highly decorative.
This rug is finely handknotted on a wool foundation with 100 % wool pile and is available in:
- 400 x 290 cm
Condition: Overall Good Condition with some areas of low pile consistent with age.
