This is an antique Esfahan rug woven in central Persia circa 1900. It has an ivory coloured center medallion design set on a red background field. The center medallion has an ivory background and an arabesque light blue design that creates colour contrast and draws the viewer’s eyes towards the center of the rug. The field is comprised with blossoming flowers attached to a vine as well as the classical “cloud band” motif. The border is designed with extra-large size palmettes flanked by the split arabesque motif.

This rug is woven on a cotton foundation and wool pile using 100% natural vegetable dyes.
