This is one of the antique Isfahan rugs from central Persia from the end of the 19th century. The unique feature of this rug is how finely woven it is on a multi-coloured silk foundation. With a classic central medallion on a Persian blue background with a vine design that is indicative of Isfahan rugs, the border of this rug has a panel design on a red background colour and a classic Isfahan palmette. This carpet has been woven on a silk foundation using fine kork wool pile and it uses asymmetrical knotting.
