DETAILS
This is an antique Aubusson tapestry woven in France during the mid-19th century circa 1850-1860 and measures 192 x 152 cm in size. This piece has a pictorial design featuring two baby angels resting on a cloud set on a beige open field background color and the central field is enclosed with a gold frame with a peacock perched above the frame with its tail feathers spread open. Surrounding the central frame are vines with an array of blossoming flowers adding a floral element to this tapestry. Funding the floral design of this piece is a wide gold color frame that completes and encloses the entire piece and makes the viewer perceive this tapestry drawing as a painting set within a painting. The outermost brown border with no designs acts as an element to complete this piece. This tapestry has been preserved in overall good condition with a few small repairs and a few areas of wear that are consistent with its age. It has been woven on a wolf foundation made with wool thread using all-natural vegetable dyes.
