DETAILS
This is an antique Aubusson tapestry woven in France during the last quarter of the 19th century circa 1880 and measures 323 x 311 cm in size. This piece features a circular central medallion decorated with floral motifs surrounded by an all overdesign created with X-shaped flowers in both the four and background which create an optical illusion using the negative space to create a perception of circles. Its border is designed with blossoming flowers and leaves interconnected by a vine design set on a light brown background color which creates color contrast against the pastel-colored field. A unique feature of this piece is its square format making it extremely rare and highly coveted by interior designers and decorators. It has been woven on a cotton foundation using wool thread and all-natural vegetable dyes and has been preserved in excellent condition.
