This is an antique Khotan rug woven in East Turkestan during the beginning of the 20th century circa 1900 -1910 and measures 460 x 216 cm in size. This piece has an all-over design with a pair of pomegranate trees that has blossoming flowers and fruits planted within pairs of vases is located at the top and bottom of the rug set on a sky-blue background color. The innermost border has polychrome-colored squares enclosing shrub motifs with a trio of blossoming flowers and the polychrome outermost border is decorated with a traditional Chinese design. This Khotan has been woven on a cotton foundation using all wool pile and 100% natural vegetable dyes and has been preserved in overall OK condition with areas of wear that are consistent with its age.
