DETAILS
This is an antique Khotan rug woven in East Turkestan during the first quarter of the 20th century circa 1920 and measures 381 x 188 cm n size. This piece features a rare pomegranate design with a pair of vases at both ends of the carpet containing pomegranate trees that ascend to the top of the carpet set on a rare light green background color. The outermost border is designed with alternating-colored geometric hooked medallions set on a peach background color and the innermost border has a fluid zigzag design with alternating floral motifs set on a pinkish background color. These two borders’ color palettes create color contrast against the overall light color scheme of the field. This piece has been woven on a cotton foundation made with all wool pile and 100% natural vegetable dyes. The condition of this piece has overall wear which is consistent with its age and is uniquely highly desirable within the decorative market.
