Bokhara

DETAILS

This is an antique Bokhara runner woven in Turkmenistan during the End of the 19th century circa 1890-1900. It has an all over field design with repeating shrub motifs enclosed in a medallion set on an apricot background colour. This is a “Torba” Turkmen trapping used to decorate camels and hold valuables inside it during wedding ceremonies. Its main border is designed with alternating flower and hourglass motifs made using an ivory colour which creates a contrast against the overall darker colour palette of this piece.

This rug is finely hand-knotted on a wool foundation with wool pile.
