This is an Tehran antique rug from Northern Persia woven circa 1900. This rug is in great condition and silk is used for many of its details. The design is one of the most sought after designs in Tehran rugs and is based on the Shah Abbas design that was used in many Kerman rugs woven during the Safavid era. The border features birds and deers with large scale palmettes connected with arabesque motifs.

This rug is finely hand-knotted on a cotton foundation with a wool and silk pile.
