This is a Antique Tehran rug from north Persia, dating circa 1910. This rug has a tree of life design and differetn animal motifs throughout – even a Persian lion attacking a deer. The border displays a scenary of different animals within the forest surrounded by floral and tree motifs. Tehran rugs design and colour palette are unique and easily distinguishable from rugs woven in other areas. This rug is finely hand-knotted on a cotton foundation with wool pile.
