This is an antique Kashan Mohtasham rug from Central Persia dating from circa 1890. This is a traditional Kashan design with a royal central medallion and a floral field with a spiraling vine pattern. The border is made up of large palmettes surrounded by a set of sickle leaf motifs. This piece also has a very unique pastel colour palette. This rug is very finely hand-knotted on a silk foundation with silk pile.
