This is an antique large Kashan Mohtasham rug woven in central Persia at the end of the 19th century circa 1880. This piece features a central medallion surrounded by an array of blossoming flowers interconnected with a vine design set on a blue background. Its border is decorated with large-scale palmettes interconnected with a split arabesque design accompanied by an array of small-scaled flowers set on the same blue background as the field.
This rug is finely hand-knotted on a cotton foundation with a wool pile.
