This unique Heriz, is Finely Handknotted in Natural Silk on Natural Silk. This one-of-a-kind curtain carpet was commissioned by Haj Hassan Compani, a renowned merchant and patron of Persian arts. The inscription cartouche at the top of the carpet states: “In the era of His Majesty, the King of Iran, Sultan Ibn Sultan, Naser al-Din Shah Qajar, woven in the factory of Haj Hassan Compani, year 1270 (Hijri Lunar Calendar, ).” 1854 This particular rug was originally woven as a hanging curtain. It includes a short valance (known as “valan” in Persian), positioned above the main section. Making it a unique Masterpiece, as valances were woven separately and attached later. The rug features poetry by renowned Persian poet Baba Taher Hamedani, adding to its visual and literary charm. Its vibrant color palette and exceptional craftsmanship make it a Masterpiece of the Qajar-era.
