This is an antique Lahore rug woven in India during the end of the 19th century circa 1900 and measures 352 x 245 cm in size. Its field is decorated with an allover design of large-scaled palmettes interconnected by a vine designed with blossoming flowers accompanied by cloud-band motifs set on a red background color. The border is made with palmettes interconnected with a linear vine design with blossoming flowers set on a green background color which creates color contrast against the red-colored field. This piece incorporates both rich and pastel colors that create a balanced color palette that is visually appealing and highly attractive to the viewer. This piece also has historical importance as it was woven during the time that Lahore was still part of India. It has been woven on a cotton foundation with all wool pile using 100% natural vegetable dyes and has been preserved in overall good condition with some areas of wear that are consistent with its age.
