This is an antique Amritsar rug woven in India during the end of the 19th century circa 1880 -1890 and measures 393 x 232 cm in size. This piece features an all-over lattice design enclosing an array of shrub motifs set on a pinkish-red background color. The border is decorated with palmettes flanked by a pair of connecting sickle leaves surrounded by floral motifs set on a green background. The design takes inspiration from Persian pieces woven during the mid-18th century. The all-over floral design o is highly decorative, and the soft pastel color palette makes it perfect to be incorporated in any modern or classical setting. It has been woven on a cotton foundation using all wool pile and 100% natural vegetable dyes and has been preserved in overall good condition retaining most of its original full pile.
