DETAILS
This is a unique antique Agra rug woven in India during the last quarter of the 19th century circa 1880 and measures 532 x 445 cm in size. The field is decorated with rows of alternating medallions enclosing floral designs flanked by small-scaled palmettes with protruding branches and blossoming flowers set on a beige background color. The field has a highly intricate floral design that incorporates a balance between geometric medallions and floral motifs. The border is decorated with alternating colored abstract crab motifs with protruding branches and blossoming flowers set on a unique sky-blue background color that creates color contrast against the beige-colored field. This is an extremely rare piece due to its all-over floral design unique color palette and square format. This Agra has been woven on a cotton foundation using all wool pile with 100% natural vegetable dyes and has been preserved in overall great condition retaining most of its original full pile.
