DETAILS
This is an antique Agra carpet woven in India at the end of the 19th century circa 1880 and measures 302 x 248 cm in size. The field is decorated with large-scaled palmettes, medallions, and cloud-band motifs sounded by small-scaled flowers creating a balanced drawing. The motifs have been woven using both beige and blue pastel colors set on a rich red background that creates a dramatic visual effect on the viewer. The border is decorated with large-scaled alternating colored palmettes surrounded by small flowers set on a beige background color which creates color contrast against the rich colored field. This Agra has been woven on a cotton foundation using all wool pile with 100% natural vegetable dyes and has been preserved in overall great condition retaining most of its original full pile.
