This is an antique Khotan rug woven in East Turkestan during the first quarter of the 20th century circa 1920-1930 and measures 315 x 168 cm in size. This piece has an all-over field design decorated with a pair of pomegranate trees grown within a pair of vases located at the base of the rug. A unique feature of this piece is that the left and right sides of the main border have different designs. The left side has repeating geometric motifs crowned with a spiraling horn design while the left side has pairs of spiraling horn motifs in closing a geometric medallion and having two completely different design themes within the same border is extremely unique and almost never seen. This piece has an all-over pastel color palette making it highly decorative and perfect for any modern or classical setting. It has been woven on a cotton foundation and made with all wool pile using natural vegetable dyes. this piece has been preserved and in OK condition with some areas of wear that are consistent with its age.
