This is an antique Sultanabad rug woven at the end of the 19th century circa 1880. This piece features a single highly stylistic large-scaled center medallion set on an open field scarlet red background accompanied by four corner medallions. The border has large-scaled abstract crab motifs flanked by a pair of sickle leaves with a center floral motif set on a blue background colour. Sultanabad rugs are prized by collectors and decorators for their extremely elegant and decorative designs making them some of the most coveted of all Persian carpets.

This rug is finely handknotted on a cotton foundation with 100 % wool pile and is available in:
