DETAILS

This is an antique Malayer rug woven in West Persia at the end of the 19th century circa 1890. This piece has a lattice design enclosing a single complete large-scaled Herati motif set on a midnight blue background colour. Decorated around the Herati design are located small-scaled animal motifs giving this piece a truly tribal feel. The border has an array of geometric floral motifs interconnected by vines set on a beige background colour creating color contrast against the darker coloured field. This piece has been preserved in overall great condition and the large-scaled motifs make it a highly decorative rug.
