This is a Malayer rug woven in west Persia in the first quarter of the 20th century circa 1910-1920. The field is designed with an all-over Herati pattern set on a blue background. The corner medallion of the field is created using a lattice design and closing star motifs set on an orange background creating colour contrast against the darker coloured field. The border is decorated with abstract crab motifs interconnected with a vine design and located in between each crab motif is a geometric flower flanked by sickle leaves. This piece has been preserved in overall great condition and is ready to be used and enjoyed for many more years.

This rug is woven on a cotton foundation and wool pile and comes in:
