This antique Malayer rug was woven in West Persia during the end of the 19th century circa 1880 – 1900. The field has an all-over design with an array of blossoming flowers made using pastel colours creating colour contrast against the darker blue background. The border is made up of repeating geometric motifs ascending towards the top of the rug decorated with the opposite colour design of the field where the motifs are drawn with darker colours and the background with the same pastel colours as the flowers within the field.
