DETAILS

This is a unique antique Ghashghai rug woven in SouthWest Persia at the end of the 19th century circa 1880 -1890. This piece has a unique square format featuring a geometric central medallion placed on an open field red-coloured background and has beige-coloured corner medallions with repeating Paisley motifs. A unique feature of the medallion is that it encloses three rows of repeating geometric hooked medallions surrounded by an array of tribal motifs. Its main border is also designed with the same polychromed repeating hooked medallions set on a blue-coloured background. This piece has many borders which cause the viewer’s eyes to focus on the main open field center of the rug. This piece has been woven on an all-wool foundation with wool pile with all-natural vegetable dyes.
