DETAILS

This is an Ghashghai antique rug woven in SouthWest Persia at the beginning of the 20th century circa 1900. Its field has a triple medallion each enclosing a large-scaled crab design and surrounded by an array of tribal geometric and floral motifs. A unique feature of this piece is that it has eight borders with only two of them having the same design. Having so many small-scaled borders cause the viewer’s attention to be focused on the center of the piece and the beige-coloured border creates colour contrast against the overall darker colour palette of the rug. This piece is woven on an all-wool foundation and uses wool pile with 100% natural vegetable dyes.
