DETAILS

This is an antique Farahan rug woven in Central Persia in the first quarter of the 20th century circa 1910 -1920. The field of this piece has an all-over design with repeating rows of small polychrome shrub motives set on a beige-coloured background. A unique feature of this piece is its extra-large size border with large-scaled floral motifs interconnected by a vine set on a dark blue background and the unique small human motifs spread throughout it. This piece has a balance between a highly stylistic floral border and geometric field making it an extremely unique rug. It has been woven on a cotton foundation with all wool pile and 100% natural vegetable dyes and has been preserved in overall excellent condition with a few areas of low pile which are consistent with its age.
