One of the small antique rugs in the Collection, this is a silk Farahan from central Persia woven circa 1880. Silk Farahans are rare rugs as not many were produced and even less have survived through the years. This rug has vase design with large scale blossoming flowers and a ‘Mihrab’ surrounded by a border with repeating early shrub motif that is seldom seen after the mid 19th century. This rug has an exotic colour palette with light blue, purple, pink, orange, and reds. This piece was woven with the finest silk foundation and silk pile using asymmetric knots.
