DETAILS

This is an antique Bakhshayesh rug woven in North West Persia at the end of the 19th-century circa 1880. This piece has an all-over design with rows of alternating coloured highly stylized paisley motifs set on a blue-coloured background.  The border is made up of palmettes surrounded by interconnecting geometric variants of the sickle leaf design set on a rare green-coloured background creating colour contrast against the overall darker field. The format of this piece is extremely long and narrow which makes it perfect for any grand hallway or entry way within any modern or classical setting. It has been woven on a cotton foundation and made using all wool pile with 100% natural vegetable dyes and has been preserved in overall great condition with a few areas of low pile which are consistent with its age.
