This is an antique Agra rug woven in India during the end of the 19th century circa 1900 and measures 260 x 180 cm in size. This piece has a highly stylized allover design with both small and large-scaled flowers surrounded by an array of cloud-band and bird motifs set on a red background color. The border is decorated with alternating cartouches enclosing both bird and floral motifs set on a green background color which creates color contrast against the rich colored field. This Agra has a unique design that incorporates many different elements drawn and woven to perfection to create a highly elegant piece. It has been woven on a cotton foundation using all wool pile with 100% natural vegetable dyes and has been preserved in overall great condition retaining most of its original full pile.
