This is an antique Khotan rug woven in the East Turkestan district in the first quarter of the 20th century circa 1900–20’s. It has an all-over design with large scale pomegranate motifs centered around an axis with vase motifs at both ends of the rug set on a blue background. The outermost border has a floral design with pink flowers interconnected with a green vine design set on a camel hair coloured background. The green and pink colours in the outermost border create a contrast against the overall darker colour palette of this rug and draw the viewers’ attention towards the border.
This rug has been woven on a cotton foundation with all wool pile and come in:
- 183 x 91 cm
Condition: Overall Good with some areas of low pile consistent with age.
