This is an antique Melas prayer rug woven in South West Turkey at the end of 19th century circa 1890-1900. Its field has a prayer rug design with a floral center medallion and abstract tribal motifs set on a white background creating a colour contrast. Its main border is comprised of repeating geometric medallions surrounded by an array of floral geometric motifs set on an apricot background colour. The outermost border with octagon shaped motifs set on a white background draws the viewers’ attention away from the center of the rug.
This rug has been woven on a wool foundation with all wool pile and comes in:
- 180 x 136 cm
Condition: Overall Good condition with some areas of low pile consistent with age.
