This is an antique silk Hereke rug from Turkey dating circa 1900 – a unique pictoral piece that shows a scene of merchants and traders in front of a building conducting business with the famous Hagia Sophia in the background. The rug is woven in such way that it gives the impression of having depth with almost a 3 dimensional effect. The border is made of cartouches encompassing poetry. This rug is finely hand-knotted on a silk foundation with a silk pile and is available in:
