DETAILS
This is an antique Ghashghai rug woven in SouthWest Persia at the beginning of the 20th century circa 1900. This piece features a large-scale floral motif within the central medallion surrounded by an array of different tribal motifs set on a red-coloured background. The corner medallions of the field follow suit with the main field’s design with an array of tribal motifs and a single large-scaled floral medallion set on a blue-coloured background creating colour contrast against the red-coloured field. The border is designed with an abstract floral motif interconnected with the vine design flanked by a trio of single flowers and a pair of paisleys set on a midnight blue background. The minor borders are decorated with polychrome-coloured ascending tribal motifs set on a beige background. This piece has been woven on an all-wool foundation with wool pile.
