This is a Sarouk antique rug from Central Persia woven during the 1930’s. This type of Sarouk is known as an American Sarouk as it was woven and designed for the US market. It has an all-over floral design with many blossoming shrubs and bouquets of different flowers. The red background field creates a colour contrast against the overall coral colour palette of the flowers. The dark blue background of the border creates a dramatic colour contrast against the lighter background field colour and draws the viewers’ attention away from the field and towards the border.
This rug is finely hand-knotted in the finest wool on cotton and is available in:
